Henrique N. Radwanski, MD | Brazil

Plastic surgeon Dr. Henrique N. Radwanski graduated in the Service of Prof. Ivo Pitanguy (Santa Casa do Rio de Janeiro, Ward 38) in 1993. Since 1996, he has been dedicated to hair restoration surgery, both in aesthetic and repair cases. He was Ivo Pitanguy’s direct assistant, being responsible for the Hair Restoration Sector of the famous Pitanguy Clinic.

In 2001, he created Centro Pilos, a pioneer in Rio de Janeiro in modern hair transplant surgery, because he believed that this surgical specialty deserved a clinic totally dedicated to the subject. Dr. Henrique has been performing, since then, the art and technique of follicular unit transplantation, either by the traditional method (skin spindle removal or FUT), or by the extraction of follicular units (FUE: follicular unit excision).

Full member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery | SBCP since 1997, Dr. Henrique was regent of the Hair Restoration Chapter for four years. He actively participates in the Brazilian Hair Restoration Association, ABCRC since its foundation in 2004. He is currently its Scientific Director.

Dr. Henrique is a member of the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) since 2003. He is also a member of the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery(ISAPS) and the Association of Alumni of Prof. Ivo Pitanguy (AExPi ), of which he was president from 2013 to 2014.

Dr. Henrique attends, in his office in Botafogo, cases of male and female baldness, women with high foreheads, patients with sparse eyebrows, beard flaws and the most different cases of scalp scars. He also has extensive experience in correcting poorly performed transplants.

Brazil is recognized as one of the most advanced countries in plastic surgery, and this is reflected in hair transplantation: some of the most prestigious specialists are here. Dr. Henrique is very proud to belong to this select group.

As the son of a diplomat, he did his primary and secondary education in several countries. He speaks fluent English, French and Spanish.

His university studies took place in Rio Grande do Sul, where he graduated as a doctor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Federal University of Santa Maria [1982-1987]. He returned to Rio de Janeiro to do his residency in general surgery at Hospital do Andaraí [1988-1989]. Then he joined the Post-Graduate Course in Plastic Surgery at PUC-RJ (Professor Pitanguy’s Service) in 1990.

Since 1993, he has participated in the former Plastic Surgery Service of Prof. Ivo Pitanguy (now Instituto Ivo Pitanguy), as assistant professor at the 38th Infirmary of Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Rio de Janeiro.

In 1995, Dr. Henrique began his specialization in baldness surgery, visiting pioneers in this area in the country: Drs. Munir Cury and Carlos Oscar Uebel. Since then, he has been developing his own methodology in hair transplantation in both aesthetic and repairing cases. In 1997 he presented an unpublished work (“Use of Hair Transplantation in the Correction of Scarring Alopecia”), ascending to the rank of Titular Member of the SBCP.

In June 2004, he participated (with two presentations) in the 1st Congress of the Brazilian Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. This inaugural event brought together the most important specialists in this area, in the city of Recife.

He joined the ISHRS in 2003, after participating in the 9th Congress in Chicago (2002). In 2004 she presented two scientific papers during the 11th ISHRS Congress in Vancouver, Canada. Since then, she has attended the ISHRS Congresses in Las Vegas (2007), Amsterdam (2009), Bahamas (2011), San Francisco (2013), Chicago (2015) and Prague (2017).

In Brazil, Dr. Henrique has participated in all SBCP Congresses in the Baldness Surgery Roundtables since 2001. He was regent, for four years, of the SBCP Baldness Surgery Chapter (2012-2015). This position is of great responsibility, as it is up to the regents to coordinate their subspecialty (writing standards, planning the annual course, collaborating in the implementation of documents such as the consent form).

Out of personal interest, in 1998 he took the MBA – Health course at COPPEAD, a prestigious management institute at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.

In the years 2013 and 2014, he was the president of the Association of Former Students of Prof. Ivo Pitanguy, leading the group of alumni of one of the most important schools of plastic surgery in the world, promoting workshops and planning meetings of this select group of plastic surgeons.

In 2011, together with Drs. Tony Ruston and Ricardo Lemos, launched the first Brazilian technical book on hair restoration: Transplante Capilar: Arte e Técnica.

Currently Dr. Henrique is editor-in-chief of the electronic scientific journal O FOLÍCULO, which publishes works by ABCRC members.
