Preview of GS3: Is Surgery Obsolete? How to Medically Manage Hair Growth Without Surgery

It is important for patients who treat hair loss to not only be able to perform skillful surgery, but to understand how to medically manage hair loss. General Session 3 at the ISHRS 30th World Congress will be moderated by Dr. Robert Haber from the USA and Dr. Shalini Malhotra from India and will include a series of presentations on this topic.

The session will include two Featured Guest Speakers who will speak about two of the most popular medical treatments of hair loss, photobiomodulation and oral minoxidil. Dr. Juanita Anders, Professor of Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics and Professor of Neuroscience, at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, is an internationally recognized expert in Photobiomodulation (PBM) research and will speak about “Photobiomodulation Therapy for the Treatment of Hair Loss.” After a presentation from Dr. Haber about a clinician’s experience using light for hair growth, we will hear from our second Featured Guest Speaker, Dr. Paulo Müller Ramos. Dr. Müller will present updates on the use of low dose oral minoxidil for hair loss.

The session will continue with talks on the medical management of hair loss. Dr. Yanagisawa will share with us the results of 3 investigations on the long-term use of Finasteride in Japanese men with androgenetic alopecia. Dr. Panchaprateep from Thailand will share her study on the comparison of oral and topical minoxidil in female patients. Dr. Ruston from Brazil will share his experience with the effects of finasteride on transplants, and Dr. Guerrero-Gonzalez from Mexico will present on the importance of medical therapy for young patients seeking hair restoration surgery.
